Default warm starts a problem

i have a 65 coupe with 200 ci. just dusted off the dust from winter and started it up. fired right up let idle for about 10 minutes or so and took it for a spin to get gas. it wouldn't start after i got gas. it would ignite but not run. finally i got it started and it idled smoothly like nothing ever happened. i had spark and getting plenty of gas in the carb. this happened towards the end of last season but thought it was a fluke. would a poorly fitting gas cap do it because it started after i took it off. soon after anyway. any thoughts or suggestions would help greatly. thanks
