Edlebrock Performer-small hairline crack-HELP!
I bought a used Edlebrock Performer. While cleaning I noticed a very small hairline crack leading(less than 1/8in.)from the rear
threaded vacuum port. doesnt look like it's all the way through.More of a surface crack. Do you think this will cause a problem? Can it be fixed if it does? ------------------ |
I'm confused? This is an intake manifold, right? These low pressures (negagative) should allow repair with J&B Weld or equivalent. If it's a head your'e talking about, it can still be welded, but by an expert welder of aluminum alloy. Find one in your area.

My mistake! I talking about an Intake manifold. I thought JB weld would do it.
I don't just wanted second oppenions. I'm so psychotic when it comes to my 65 Coupe I panic. ------------------ |
Tooncis, I thought I knew what you meant. How did this crack occur? I'm just curious. I have a Performer on my small block, so I know the hole you refer to.

Looks Like someone either over tightened the vacuum fitting or forced it out too hard!
It's a great manifold. I paid $80 for it. I cleaned it up -Painted it the same color slightly shiner. This crack is very small Oh! It's like someone forced an oversized fitting or tight fitting onto threads.I'm sure now thats what happened because the 2 holes at rear are the same size. the higher up one (The cracked one) is slightly bigger .(thread tape will correct).Threads are ok. Its not a normal flaw or because of the manifold. ------------------ |
J&B Weld should fix it. Just coat a proper plug with vasoline , repair with J&B, remove the the plug, and you should be in good shape for whatever fitting normally goes in the hole. Vacuum readings should be normal for your setup. My Performer cost twice that much.
