elec. ignition
 

Can anyone recommend any good electronic ignition kits (dist. cap, ignitor, maybe a coil just to be extra sure, etc.) from personal experience. I'm tired of dealing with points. I try to keep it as old school as possible but some things are just worth the change.

Also, I have random wire with a slide on type end that is laying between the carb and drivers side valve cover, it's kind of long, maybe reaches about to the oil filter on my 289? I'm thinking it may before a sensor? Any ideas?

The slip on connectors go either to the temp sending unit or the oil pressure sending unit. Which one does not register?

As for the electronic ignition, I recommend whole heartedly the MSD components. Get the magnetic sensing distributor with the MSD 6-AL ignition box. Also get the MSD recommended coil.

DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER the Mallory components. I've used these and am replacing them with MSD as they fail over and over again.

A lot of people wanting to retain their stock appearance are using the Pertronix Ignitor, which is an electronic module that replaces your points. It is an easy one wire hookup. Couple that with their Flamethrower Coil and you have the performance of an electronic ignition underneath your stock distributor cap. I have one on my 289 and it was a big boost over the points and it starts better and runs better.

I agree with the previous post. I put the Pertronix into my '67 Coupe about 5 years ago and it has been excellent. Best money I ever spent. E.
