Electric Choke
 

First and foremost, what are the advantages of having an electric choke?. What is the main purpose and how does it work? One last thing where would you connect the "red" wire, I know it has to connect to a source that generates 12 volts. Where exactly??

The only good thing about an electric choke is that it is a one wire hookup. A manual choke is better but you need to get used to when to open and close it. The electric choke slowly opens as it heats up.

You have to choke the engine (more gas, less air) when it is cold. A cold engine needs more gas to start and idle properly.

You can hook the wire to any accessory that is hot when the key is turned on. Some people splice it in with the heater motor. I ran a wire directly to the back of the ignition switch. I have seen some people hook it to the stator terminal on the alternator. That way the choke will only heat up if the engine is running (as opposed to the other hookups where the choke will start to open when the key is turned on, even if the motor is not started).
