have BBF w/11.2 comp & points dist (runs @ 6200 range) mfg claims seem to be magic elixer for everything. the 20 degree fire duration sounds good, spark retard also sounds good. /Anybody out there have any first hand experience with these magic boxes what can I expect for $130-294.?????????????Thanks ftk@cvns.net

I have run both the MSD and the Crane.

I prefer the Crane unit. I presently have one on one of my Mustangs [289 dual fours] and am using a Mallory Unilite dist. I don't like the dist. Kind of crude.

The spark on the other hand will knock your socks off. Make sure that you get the Crane coil, I think the best one has a #92 on it on something like that. I took the dorky chrome cover off it and mounted it like a late model Ford Coil.

Save yourself and get the msd box with the rev limiter.. I've got mine set at 8,000 and only had it kick in once.. but it's their just in case you need it (or you get really drunk and let you buddy drive your car and he wants to see it do a 8,000 burnout on your driveway) but that's another story http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

I had an MSD unit on a Chevy (please don't throw BIG rocks) many years ago and I'm sure they are better now but that thing made a tremendous difference. Mine was hooked up with a toggle bypass because it caused so much static on the radio but when you hit the switch you could definitely tell the difference. I plan on a 6AL for our 82 GT as soon as I can find a few dollars laying around. By the way, has anyone had any experience with an MSD distributor?

I've had an MSD6a in my '85 GT for 3 or 4 years without any problems. It works great, although you'll also need they're tach adapter for the factory tach to work. If I had it to do again, I would go with the 6al box with the built in rev limiter though.
