Exhaust?

I am going to put a new exhaust on my '70 Mustang Mach1 w/351W. It has duel exhaust already, but my question is, what is an H-pipe? What does it do? I have heard it said, but not sure about it. Sorry, I am not mechanically inclined and would greatly appreciate if anyone would help me. Thank you in advance.

The H-pipe is section of your exhaust from the exhaust manifolds to the rear of the transmission and the there is a pipe connecting the two pipes together. This forms a crude looking letter H. This helps even out the flow and give you some low end torque.
I will be replacing my exhaust system and I will be installing one. By the way what exhaust manifold and mufflers are you using?

I put an h pipe and full 2 1/2" exhaust with some walker mufflers. that really brought my 289 to life

Thancks for the replies.

Clark
I will be using headers and possibly either flowmaster or dynomax mufflers. If possible
I wouls like to try the H-pipe.

My car has a H and very happy with the Dynomax mufflers.
