Post Fill me in on some mustang questions.

As I am getting very interested in restoring a mach 1 (hopefully not mechanical, I already drive a Fiero), I am wondering if someone could tell me a little bit about the mustang history (not all of it). Just want to know what years came with what engine, what engines the mach1 came with, etc.. Performance times if possible. Thanks!

You're not asking for much. For engine information, check out the web textbook at http://www.fomoco.com/index.asp?Dept...&Tool=Textbook
That should be a start.

So what engines did 69-73 mach1's come with? I looked up your thing and noticed that the 351's only put out 250 approx. Is it real easy to bump that up? Thanks!

I think this is right but don't take it as gospel
69-70 mach 1
351 2v, 351 4v,(winsor in 69, switch to cleveland shortly after 70)390 2v and 4v, 428 cj.
71 mach 1
302, 3 different 351's (mix if W and C) 429.
72-73
302, 3 differnt 351's
Power levels dropped steadily form 71-73 as emission requirements and switch to unleaded in 72 killed power.

Ah! So the 72-73 are SLOWER than the earlier ones? This makes me reconsider. So you can get a mach with a 427 in it, it just has to be an earlier one.. Gotcha.

Alright.. Read through that sight. So, the Boss is the fastest mustang? What's different about a 429 Mach1 and a 429fastback? (Unless there was no such thing) besides styling? Thanks

This will throw you for a loop. Fastes 1/4 mile classic mustang, 71 Boss 351. Faster than any of the big blocks.
429 mach1 vs 429 fast back. Virtually identical. mach1 was a trim and handeling package. Both cars would look nearly the same from outside save a few trim items.
