What do the blue dots do? Nice looking intake. I would spray it with some sort of clear, make it easier to clean. I have the same intake and mine now looks like crap since its gotten dirty/discolored. Good luck man.

What do the blue dots do?
They do nothing cept' look really, really cool. Just one of those lil' things you don't see that much of anymore. The blue dots are jeweled glass so at night you see a very distinctive blue light in the middle of the red light. Like I said I just think they look cool. I like subtle little things that most people wouldn't notice. Blue Dots, Brody Knob, Moon Eyes (not so subtle but pretty uncommon)

Thanx for the luck. Oh, and I did spray the manifold. Great advice though.

One more thing the Blue Dots will do is, when you hit the brakes and the brake light comes on it will cause a purple glow from the mix of red and blue. Looks great....

Oh yeah, one more thing they'll do.....attrack the Police in some area's. They consider them "Blue Lights" which are illegal is some areas.

Yeah, They are illegal here in CA. So is my Brody Knob. BUT I live in San Francisco and the cops here have more important things to worry about than guys w/ lil' tricks on their car. (knock on wood) To be honest though, I do have another set w/out the blue dots for when I drive south to see the folks. If I do get stoped, it's just a fix a ticket. No big deal. Now lets see if I can get that manifold installed.

Just a thought, but why not put the blue dots on the inside of the taillamp housing? It wouldn't look quite so goofy (in my opinion), maybe not attract the cops so much, and you'd still get the blue effect at night.

That's simple. Because then they wouldn't be Blue Dots.

As for the cops... I got a stack of fix it tickets from over the years for all kinds of stupid stuff. One cop even made me take off my eight ball Brody Knob and hand it over to him. At least he didn't write the ticket. I bet he put it in his own car. ( I bought another one the next day. Silly police).

goofy is as goofy does

You're loosing part of the point of having the "Blue Dots". When the car/bike is parked or during the day you can see the "Blue Dot Jewel" on your tail lamps.

Here in Florida they stop the "rice burners" with the blue windshield squirter lamps. They need to get a "Crook" not some kid with lit squirters.

Well, I get the point of having blue dots. I just think they're ugly. But if you like them, that's all that matters. Has anyone tried putting them on the inside? Will they still cause the lamp to show a bit of blue at night?

I guess you're too young to truly appreciate the iconic value of "Blue Dots" and that's cool. It's not your fault you were born in the 70's. It's like "okiedragster" said, back in the day everybody had them on their rides. My old man put em' on every car he had. They're part of the history and tradition of Hot Rodding. A lil' education goes a long way.

As for your question. Try using spot light gels. Like they use at night clubs. Go to any plastics store for 1' x 1' sq. sheets in any color you want. Maybe you'll start a new fad. But don't get mad if somebody asks "why didn't you just use blue dots"?

Ugly is as ugly does.

Don't know how you'd do that. When you install Blue Dots, you drill the lens and they fit in the opening. I guess you could glue them to the bulbs or something like that. Never came up before.

But, hey everyone has their own taste. No harm in that. They're like Fuzzy Dice, Tiger Tails, #8 Ball shift knobs, Dice shift knobs, Steering Wheel knobs [aka "suicide knob"], curb feelers [aka "Tennesse Superchargers], etc.

I was thinking you could glue the gels to the inside of the lens. But you're right the light would still be going through the red plastic last. I don't know if you'd get a color change by adding a different color gel in front of the lens. It may just make the red darker.
