Default Fuel Frustration - What do you use?

I owned a 66 in highschool when leaded fuel was still available

I just bought a 67 convertible last week, but you obviously can't get leaded at the pump. I have come upone 3 answers:

1. The local 'stang shop here told me to just put 87 octane. No need for lead additive. That just doesn't sound right to me.

2. I was figuring I would use 87 octane + a lead fuel additive. But maybe I should use 92 octane with lead additive?

3. I also read some stuff online published by Shell that says I should use higher octane gases without fuel additive

I am getting frustrated. What do you guys use?

Default Re: Fuel Frustration - What do you use?

Are you sure that the engine doesn't have hardened valve seats? Although they didn't come stock, most engine builders put them in... or at least ask to have them put in.

If it was rebuilt in the past couple years, my guess would be that it would have the hardened seats...

Otherwise, I guess it largely depends on your driving... If you are going to be doing some high RPMs more than frequently, I'd say that you should go with the additive.

As far as octane... my view is "no ping, no foul"...
