Default Fuel Pump Issues

Hello to all,

Several years ago i replaced the motor in my 67 coupe with a 351.
I had a double roller chain put on in hopes of avoiding problems with stretch and loss of timing. When the chain was replaced the line up pin for the gear and fuel pump eccentric were not replaced with a longer one. Consequently the fuel pump eccentric did not seat properly and the pin sheared off. An electric pump was added and now i have nothing but problems. One person tells me the pump is overheating, but the pump is desinged for external use, the pump is pulling dirt and rust from the tank or the pump is just plain weak. Has anyone else had a similiar problem and what was the fix.
