Gears?

I would appreciate if someone could inform me on the pros. and cons. of different gears. I have an '895.0. w/holley650 dbl pump. C-4, and a 9in rear in my '65 coupe. Well I'm not really sure of the gears to go with. I want it to be pretty quick of the line but it's gonna be my daily driver! Well, thanks a lot for any suggestions! Bud

I'd say for a daily driver to go with 3:50 gears. I think the next taller gear is a 3:89 in the 9" rear. That may be too much. I guess it depends on your taste. If it's got a decent motor in it 3:50 should be a good all around gear.

You can order 3.70's in 9in from summit (and other places. But for a daily driver I would go 3.5 too as long as you go with out OD. I have 3.25 with 15inch p235 60 series tires and tach about 2550 at 70 mph.

I run 3.50 gears and an AOD in my 68 FB. With the low gear set, the car comes out of the hole "very" guick. I also have the O/D for the highway. I also run 235/60/15 tires. I think this gear set up is probably the best for the street.

I run 3.25's with my C-4 with an 8" rear. 3000 RPM at 70. I personally wouldn't want to cruise much higher than that. I run 235/60/15's also. 3.25 seems an all around good street compromise to me.
