Grinfing noise from rear end

I just got my car running after the engine swap, thanks for all of the help with the fuel pump!!! However now the rear end is making a loud scrapping noise when the car is in gear and I have the brake on. I checked the fluid in the axle but its full, then I check the fluid in the transmission and it looks like the person who put in the engine over filled it. I'm going to drain all the fluid and fix that, will that fix the problem, or is it my axle?

Car in gear with brake on. Does this mean your moving or not?
Maybe brakes if your moving.
More specific.

Not moving, I changed the transmission fluid but no change.

I, for one, am having a hard time believing that the noise is coming from the rear end. What does it do when you are actually driving? Any noises then? If so, when and under what conditions? Could it be tranny clutches slipping? Doesn't sound like it. Give us more info. Shouldn't be hard to determine this problem.

Noise from rear end with car in gear and brake on ????? The rear isn't moving then, and if it was it would be wiped out.

Are you jacking the car against the torque converter when you hear this noise?? If so could just be the sound of the brakes slipping alittle trying to hold the car back.

We do need more info. so we can help.
