GT350 Suspension

Tech Guys,
I'm getting ready to lower the front of my 1962 Falcon and want to redrill the upper A arm mount holes in shock tower like Shelby did with early GT350s.Do the holes get redrilled higher up or lower towards ground?I recall these holes were moved about 1.0inch but forgot which way.

Poppy, the branda parts catalog is suppose to have a template printed in it to show you where the holes go but if you don't need it just drill the new holes above the old ones. I think your right about the 1 in.

Clark,Thank you.I thought it was 1.0inch higher,now if the headers don't hit the relocated A arm stud nuts I'll be all set.The car has a 351W which is a tight fit even with the engine swap headers.

Whoa!!!
I just did this to my wifes '69 Mach 1 last spring.
If memory serves me right, its 1" alright, but also a 1/4" back too. NOT RIGHT ABOVE
THE OLD HOLES!!
I dont have my templates handy, but if its not too late, I can get them for you.
I got them from the Branda catalog.

You're right about the need for a template!
Its not directly 1" lower, but slightly offset.

Thanks guys for the info.My reaction time to responding is slow just like when I go to the track,some times I cut a good light though.I haven't drilled any new holes as yet and will try to get the templet you refer to.I had such a hard time getting the alignment done right the last time that maybe should leave it alone.Why is it so hard to get a good wheel alignment?Shops in my area seem to care more about the money than doing job right,especially on an almost 40yr old car.

I'm glad your going to use the template because I would never drill such important holes unless I knew for sure where to do it. I also will be doing this and am looking to get the template.
As far as the alignment goes keep looking around and if there are any mustang clubs near you contact them for referrals. You have to find someone that does not do twelve of them in a day! It might take you awhile but you'll find one and if it costs a little more, it will be worth it.

One other point, The alignment specs are printed with the templates in the Branda catalog.
I had an "old timer" do our alignment, without fancy new tools. I helped him and it took about 3 hours by the time we were done monkeying around. It turned out good, no noticable tire wear and the old guy really knows his stuff, as he was explaining the entire procedure to me as we were doing it.
Hope my latest Branda order gets here in time for my wifes Christmas present!

I believe Mustangs Plus has these templates also. I also am pretty sure it's 1" lower for the new bolt holes. For sure get the templates before drilling any holes. It's possible to do the alignment yourself . I did this on my '66 using home made wooden jigs and a level. Some of this is in Fred Puhn's book, How to Make Yuor Car Handle. It took some trial and error and a shim kit and a lot of time, but the result was good.

I have a Branda Catalog right here..
And the 65-66 template is offset 1/8" twords the front of the car. the 67-70 template is right above. Also shows alignment settings.
I would take the catalog with you to an experienced alignment shop.
