Headlight Switch

Does anybody know if the dimmer portion of the headlight switch can be cleaned? It appears I have inconsistant electrical contact as I turn the knob from dimmer to brighter.

Or, should I just buy a new switch?

Thanks

That portion of the switch works by dragging a contact point over a spiralled resistace coil. You might be able to clean it some by squirting brake cleaner aerosol (cheaper than electrical cleaner and works just as well) around there and see what happens. Nothing to lose really, just buy a new one if that doesn't work. About $20 a few years ago at John's Mustang in Houston. A Ford replacement part too. "Heche en Mexico" if I remember correctly. It's done fine for 5 yrs. now.

I would just get another switch. By the time you get it out and try and clean it. Then put it back in and find out it didn't work, you could of had the new one in and be driving.

15 minutes to lose, $15 to gain ($5 for cleaner).
