Heads
Hey everyone, well I did decide to do the restomod because it will make me grin:) . Anyways, I also got some more money from the casino:) . I would like to buy a carb, intake, and some heads. I think im going to go with a 600 holley and performer intake. I just cant decide what kind of heads would suit my needs. I want the car to be good on the street, maybe run in the low 14's to 13 seconds. I talked to a guy at a local machine shop, he said that i could just rebuild my stock 302 heads, larger valves etc. Would it be better for me to do that? Or should I upgrade to a better head setup like 351's. Please, I NEED HELP! Thanks. BTW, it is a 69 Mustang with a stock 302, dual flowmasters, and a c-4.

351W heads
The 351W heads will breathe better and make more power than the 302W heads. You will need the afore mentioned induction and a good street cam as well as headers to get the full benefit though. Check into compression ratios for your build up. I think the 302's had dished pistons somewhere along the line. You will want to end up with around 9.5/1 for a strong street engine.

good choice resto
Heres what I would do. Find you a 302 motor from a fox, roller motor. Sometimes they can be had fairly cheap, complete. But even if it was to buy for a core, your better off with a , did I say roller motor yet? Port the stock heads for waaaaaaay less than new heads, new springs & rockers. Unless you got some cash to spend, then buy some AFR's. If you look around a little, you can save alot of money and have a very decent motor, roller motor that is. |
mustangII460 is right on. Picked up a roler motor myself to go in around spring. Mine was just remanufactered...bought it minus induction for about $300. If u look, they are out there. Plus, the later model heads are a better design (usually) then the older heads.

I believe if you put the 351 heads on the 302 you have to re tap the block, something with the bolt holes being slightly different sizes, am i right?? I was considering do that and someone to me that, so just decided i would try to pass the info on.
