Help with rebuilding an engine
The engine is a 360 V8 out of a 69 F-100. Wanting to make some serious hp and torque and make this sucker fly but I don't know jack about the older carb engines. What would ya'll recommend doing to it? Heads, intakes, cams, carbs, cranks, pistons? all that good stuff. I'm also thinking the C-4 for tranny. Will this work? Thanks.

For a while it'll be daily driver and probably a fairly slow build up but will eventually be mainly track use with occasional street/show time.

Here is an unpopular answer. Isn't that an FE engine? If so, I would either forget it or get a larger displacement FE. But assuming you don't want to do that, I would be real tempted to go with the edelbrock kit (heads, cam, intake, carb) for ford FE engines.

I'm with T-bolt. It sounds like you have an FE that could use some respiratory improvement. If you buy the Edelbrock components you can always transfer them to a 428 later on.

Yes it is a FE. I take it that it would be too much trouble to do this? Is it because of parts availability is scarce? Or are these engines just not that great in the first place?

I personally don't find anything wrong with the FE. Man I would love to find a 427 but then who wouldn't. The problems I have are the following. The FE is heavy. A small problem but that intake manifold valve cover seal is really messed up and prone to leaking. The FE is old and relatively few preformance parts exist for these motors. Hence FE stuff can get expensive fast. Therefore if you want to do an FE, why not go with a big one like a 428, or the 390 with a 428 crank. If you find a 391, which is a truck 390, it can be bored to 428 specs. Get a 428 crank and then you got some cubes. Couple that with an edelbrock kit (someone else may make good parts for FE's but I like the edelbrock stuff) and you got some real grunt and get up and go.
