Default Hopefully Last Brake Line Question

I know I'm wearing out my welcome on brake line questions so hopefully this'll be the last one. Got all new lines and master cylinder hooked up and all 4 brakes bled beautifully. However, of the 20 connections for my 68 coupe (includes the 4 bleeder screws), I had 6 major leaks. Retightened them and am down to 3 minor leaks. My question is how much more can I retighten the fittings before I tear something up? I know the manuals say definitely don't overtighten but they also say to get tight enough to stop the leak. Have been tightening each time about an 1/8th of a turn to try and stop the leaks.
