Default How do I ID my tranny?

I need to identify what type of tranny I have, but I have no idea how. I know it is a three speed auto and is bolted up to a 351c 2v.

I have been told it is either a c6 or an AOD. I have no idea which if it even IS one of these.

For sure not an AOD. That's an automatic overdrive in late models. It'll be a C-4, C-6, or a FMX.

Default FMX

My trusty old Chilton's Mustang Manual says it came with an FMX in the '71 351C 2V.

Not too sure about San Clemente, but I found a small Mexican trans shop here in Houston that did my C-4 for $250 including all rebuild parts and included a new torque converter. That was carry in/carry out of course. I'd look around a little, maybe ask shops that you do business with who does their tramission rebuilds for them. That's how I found my guy. The FMX will probably be more than my C-4 for both parts and labor.
