Post how much for 65 comet?

I have a chance to buy a 1965 mercury comet with a dual quad 302 a 4 speed toploader and a 9 inch rear with 411's. It is rusty, but not so much that the car is hopeless. It will need some attention, though. I know for sure that the dual holley's need rebuilt and the person who rebuilt the motor was an idiot so I'm sure the motor needs a total rebuild. He is asking $1500. I think I can get the car for $1000 or less. What do you guys think it's worth?

65's are very cool and different looking cars. If you can pick it up for a grand and the body is salvagable, it sounds like a decent deal. Just remember that finding body, trim and interior parts for these can be difficult as this was a one year only body style. Most of the suspension and structural stuff however will interchange with the Falcon and those parts can be found. In the things I wish I had done department, I sold a 65 6 cyl Comet hardtop for my aunt back in 98 - a beautiful car garaged since new, 52,000 original miles, zero rust, still shiny original paint, mint interior for $3,800. I truly regret not buying the car myself and doing a small block, 4 speed swap. Live and learn!

I know of a 63' comit with a 6cyl and they are asking 1300.00 With the 302 and top loader I think it is worth 1500.00 and any deal below would be a steal.
Good luck and if you get it show us some pic's.
