Default How to replace left door glass and stuff

Hello all...I have just purchased a new door shell and now have to take all the inner workings and glass from my old door and assemble in the new door shell. My question is - Is there a good way to do this?

It is easy enough to take apart, but I think there is probably a right and a wrong way to put it all back together so it works like designed. I guess I am thinking there are certain parts and steps that have to go in a certian order so everything goes in properly. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Default Shop manual?

I did that on mine about 5 years ago. I really needed my Ford shop manual to get it all back together and especially for the adjustments to get the window and vent to fit right. I wish I could remember enough to give a step by step, but I would need the shop manual again to do it again. My advice is to buy a Ford shop manual. You can bet that you will use it over and over . It's worth the $.

It's not that difficult but time-consuming. Just follow the shop manual. Essentially, you'll want to install the parts in this order:
1 - window regulator
2 - inside door handle regulator
3 - door latch
4 - door handle
5 - door lock
6 - inside door lock pull
7 - all latch connecting rods
8 - vent window and front window guide (one piece)
9 - adjust vent window
10 - rear window guide
11 - door window
12 - adjust window

May have missed a piece and some may be different since mine is a 68, but the shop manual tells you everything. May not be the order everyone else assembled theirs but worked well for me. You'll need lots of patience adjusting the window and forget trying to make it perfect like it came off the assembly line - I know from experience it won't happen, but you "can" get it real close. Main thing is to get it parallel across the top, adjust the stops to get the height right, and adjust the glass in or out to get a good seal against the weatherstrip when the door is closed. If you haven't hung the door yet, I'd pre-load it about an 1/8" high for the weight of the glass. Was told to pre-load about a 1/16" (which I did) but mine is about a 1/16" low. Hope this helps some.

Default Thanks for the advise

Thanks for all the advise. I am sure it will make this process much less painful. I did look in the manual and there are some very good reference pictures, so I begin next week. Wish me luck...

Default Patience

You won't need luck, just lots of patience. You can do it though.

Default One can only hope....

Yea - I don't have much of a thing for time consuming projects....But the door is here and it will sit in storage till winter. I have most of the body panels that I need for the winter project....It's gonna be a New Mustang come next spring....

Many Thanks to all that have contributed to the posts I have made here...

I have a cheapo digital camera for just such events. Take some snaps as you go, for reference.

Cool Pictures are a good thing.

I will be sure and take some pictures as I go. I am going to have to do the other door after I master the first one. I'll let you know how it all turns out later in the year...
