Angry Humming noise from an AOD transmission

Hey all! Thanks for all your help during the installation of my AOD transmission into my '67 convertible. Now that it's all bolted up, I decided to actually start the car back up! It started up fine, but after about 5 minutes there came a regular humming noise from the transmission. It increases in pitch as I press on the accelerator, and deepens in pitch when I put the tranny in gear. any idea what's wrong? I checked the clearance of the torque converter bolts against the backing plate, to make sure they weren't rubbing

Bubba,
Does it always take a few minutes to warm up before you hear the noise? I do not have the AOD but on my FMX it had the same problem and it turned out to be the torque converter.

Clark, It happens right from the get-go, as soon as the engine kicks over. It continues as long as the engine runs.

The only other item I can think of is maybe your starter is causing this. Have you looked at it and the teeth of the fly wheel? It's a long shot but what the hell.

Clark, the starter and the flywheel seem to be meshing OK. Another friend told me to try and drive it, to see if that would help things. I got it out on the road, but couldn't get much past 30 mph. The old Mustang shop manual says this could be a problem with the torque converter, which was your original idea. Any thoughts, with this new info?
