'65-66 Mustangs certainly accept '75-78 Granada/Monarch/Varsailles spindles as that's what I'm using right now. You don't need drop spindles. Just use the correct springs/insulators and drop the upper suspension arm mounts an inch (ala Shellby) if you need to.
You'll have a good center of gravity and pretty good handling. If you need a more race type suspension, get the negative wedge kit, but that's really more for racing.
