![]() Ok folks, looking for opinions. I want to upgrade the stopping power on my car. Now I don't really want to step up to Wilwood at all four corners, but an upgrade would be nice. I currently have a 72 with stock front disks, and stock drums on a 9in axle in back. I want to keep the 15 inch magnum 500 wheels. What would you do about rotors? Pads? Would you upgrade to a newer master cylinder and if so why? Can I get larger rotors off of another ford and keep my wheeles? Would you go rear disks? Any other thoughts?
Thanks for any and all input. Bill |

![]() You said you wanted more stopping power are you sure the rear brakes are working properly? You could always change to better disks up front but the biggest improvement will have to be made in the back. You could try a larger drum 10 x 2 1/2, or a proportioning valve that will give more power to the rear shoes, but disks in the back will be the best fix.

![]() Thanks Clark
The rear brakes are fine, but my proportioning valve is not quite right. The rear will lock before the front if I quickly hit the brakes instead of laying into them steadily. This car dosen't have the stopping power of my 81 camaro. It is heavier, but also has larger brakes so I figure there has to be lots of room for improvement. |

![]() I have a 68 FB with factory front disc and rear drum [nine inch]. Didn't like the way mine stopped. Took the factory proportioning valve out and installed a manual adjusting valve on the rear brakes. It was better, at least I could control lock up.
Then I install Stainless Steel rear disc brakes. They use the same valve and fit really easy. NOW IT STOPS. Big difference. |
