Talking Intake and Manifold. Finally.

Well I just got back from Iraq and spent a few of my saved dollars on a new Edelbrock Performer manifold a Road Demon 625 carb. Spent all day working on it and now I am having fits hooking up my throttle linkage and Kick down. IT seems to want to accept the two of them in a different order than they were on the stock 2 barrel carb, which was throttle outboard and kickdown inboard, but the Demon seems to want the kickdown inboard and throttel outboard.

I might just not hook up the Kick down tonight but I should get the Throttle soon. Just as soon as My kid goes to sleep I can finish it. Ill post a pic when its finished.

Well this is kinda a bummer. I gt it all sorted out, minus the Kickdown, and fired it up. Runs a lot better than my old Aotolite 2 barrel, but the Idle is a bit high. after running up the street a bit I noticed that my Vac gage is reading onl at 5psi. It normally runs at 20. Hmm, now what could that hissing noise under the hood be? pull back in the garage and pop the hood.... well the rear end cap gave out and was bleeding oil ALL OVER the tranny and engine, as well as droping Vacume. the wife is tired of me working out there tonight so It will have to wait untill tomorrow after work before I can fix it.

Darn it, Ive been looking forward to running this car and now I have to wait again... Oh well.

some people like to just run silcone across the back.. but I like the fel-pro 1250 intake gasket.. the front and rear gasket have an adhesive strip... a little carb cleaner to make sure the block is clean, then stick them down.. haven't had them slip out yet..

Well I just blew the seal out again... This is the third time. Im now going to try the Cork gasket and a bit of silicon in the corners. Hope it works, or I might just try welding it!!

I have noting but problems using teh gaskets for the front and back of the intake. Just use a healthy amount of RTV silicone on the china walls and let it squish out when you torque down the manifold. Then just wipe it smooth with a rag when your done and give it some time to dry. I've never had problems with leaking since.

yea, thats what I was doing using Permatex Ultra Black. While at Kragen Auto I was looking at the RTV and found the Ultra Grey. It says that it is for Intake Manifolds. I dont know if thatmade the differance, but using the Ultra Grey and the Cork gaskets it worked out great. Now If I cold just tune my carb properly....

I had some problems with throttle brackets/kickdown cable hookup, none of the brackets placed the cables where they needed to be, they wouldn't line up with the carb lever or allow me to adjust the tension right, and the adjustable brackets available were too cheap and had too much flex to even bother with. I ended up buying one of the nice CSI aluminum (blue, $36) brackets from jeg's and used an L bracket with the square hole cut out for the kickdown from another bracket and drilled 2 holes in the CSI bracket (in front of the adjustable throttle piece) and drilles 2 more slotted holes in the L-bracket for the kickdown so I could adjust the tension. I bought 2 small allen screws that matched the one for the throttle along with a set of nuts, it works perfect and looks sweet, plus it's nice and stiff.

yes, the gasket is holding up great now. I also know what you mean about the brackets not working. I made my own out of steel plate. Ugly, but functional. Which to me is more important.
