Default Couple of quick, stupid questions!

Now I know that there aren't any stupid questions, just stupid people, but I'm one of those stupid people.

1. Almost every time I brake, my brake light on my dash comes on. You know, the on that comes on when you pull up the E-Brake. Does anyone know why it would be doing that?

2. Are there actual light bulbs behind the dash that light up the guages or are they illuminated some other way, like individually per guage. My guages are very dim on the left side and I hope that it is easy to get back there and that it is just a bulb to be replaced.

3. When I accelerate quickly, always from a stop, my "check engine" light will come on but only stay on for at most, one minute. Why would it be doing that? I noticed it after i installed my off-road h-pipe and when it started getting cold here. It has been an extremely cold winter so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

I appreciate and help on any or all of the questions above. Every little bit helps.

Thanks,
Scott

Here are answers to the first two questions.

The brake light comes on most likely because you're low on fluid.

There are individual bulbs behind the gauges that illuminate them. If one side is dim, you need to replace that bulb. Sorry to be the one to tell you this, they are a real pain.

If your brake fluid is low and it has just started doing this, check your pads. They may be low and close to needing to be changed. As the pad wears, the piston extends out farther. Mutiply that by 4 calipers and you can drop a good amount of fluid from the time you install new pads to when you are almost to the metal

I don't know why I never checked the brake fluid. You would think that would be the first thing.

When I just got my new clutch installed and my tranny casing changed, I had them check the brakes because of the light and they said that I should have at least 15-20K miles left on them. I'll check the fluid later today.

As for the dash light, I tried getting back there once before to install white face guages but I ended up returning them because they weren't the right model. I know that is a pain in the *****.

Now I'm just looking for some help on my last question there.

Thanks for the help guys.

Your last question means you should have the codes pulled. Anytime the check engine light comes on, it will probably leave a code.

Go to Auto Zone, they will check it for free. Then you can start looking for the source of the problem.
