Leaking Carb
I'm having some trouble with a leaking carb but can't seem to locate the problem. The car's been flooding and when I pulled the top off the carb, I could see a little bubble coming to the surface every 3 seconds or so. The fuel leaks until there only about 1/2 inch left in the bowl. I checked the power valve and accelarator pump but the gaskets look fine...I just rebuilt the carb about 1000 miles ago. When I drive it (weekends), it runs great until I stop, then the fuel leaks and it floods when I try to restart it. I can smell tons of gas. It's a stock 2brl on a 289. Thoughts?

What car, what engine, what carb?
I think we may need a little more info to diagnose the problem. Sounds to me as if it could be a leaking needle & seat. And then it could be an incorrect float level. Where does the fuel leak from and where does it go? A leaking power valve would do what you describe. That should have been replaced when you did the rebuild, but there can be defectbve new parts. Give us alittle more info.

I'm not sure where the fuel is leaking to but I have to assume it's going down into the manifold because the car is flooding out. The bubble comes from under the float so I doubt it's the needle/seat. I vacuum tested the power valve and it seemed fine so I thought that wasn't the issue. The bowl only has about 1/2 inch of fuel left in it after sitting for a few days. The float appears to be in good consdition...it's floating at least and the float level looks ok.
