lifters

i know this is probly a crazy question but did the stock 289 in the 67 mustang come with hydrolic lifters or did it have solid lifters? and if it came with solid lifters (and im assuming so) is it possible to fit in hydrolic lifters into it? id appreciate any info

I hate to tell you this but only the HP 289 had mechanical lifters, all regular 289's are hydraulic. Is there a problem with yours sounding like mechanical?

Only the K code 271 hp 289 had solid lifters. It also had dual points. It is unlikely that you have one of these engines and don't know it. If I had one, I would not convert it to hydraulic lifters.
