Here it goes. I was driving off the casino headed to the freeway, and all of a sudden my 66 coupe mustang was went from 65 mph to 10 mph...As my reaction I decided to hit the gas at full blast. And, it started to work again. Next thing you know it, 10 minutes later, It happend again, and again.. again.

Finally, I made it home. I know for a fact that my car as a full tank of gas. Since, I pulled over and filled it up. However, I notice when its about to turn off it sounds like Im running out of gas.

When I bought my coupe it came with an installed Electrical fuel device w/ a on and off switch. I believe my electrical fuel switch ins't working, because, when its working and I turn the switch on.. I can hear the gas going to my car, now I can't hear anything.

What I did was I bought a mechanical fuel device, that connects to my engine and has two connections. One going to my carburator and the other connecting to my gas tank.

Here is my problem, It still doesn't know that I did that switch to mechanical. I know it sounds funny, But I think I didn't complete the conversion right. So, I check under the gas tank and found this electrical device that connects from my gas tank to my this fuel cable that goes to my hood, which connects to my mechanical fuel device.

Do I take of this device? and simply put a fuel cable 3/8" to my gas tank? Would That make it work? Because, when I have my key on the ignition and I hit the gas, I don't see any gas going to my carburator.

What I took out from the inside of my hood, was this pressure gauge and a filter that goes from my gas tank to the carburator. However, I think the device next to my gas tank is my electrical fuel thing. But, I am not to sure, since I never messed with any electrical fuel device w/switch.

Can anyone give me some input and ways to over pass this, I don't care much about this electrical fuel device. All I want is my car to work. Since, Its my only car and since, I am not a fan in taking the bus to work. I can deal with the electrical fuel device in my weekend schedule, however, I am willing to convert to mechanical.

Sorry I did not read your whole post, cause my head started hurting. Geez dude, good grammer never killed anyone.

But,,

Turn on your key and give the electrical device that connects the fuel tank to the fuel cable a good smack. Usually you'll here the thing start pumping.

You can remove it and just run a mechanical pump. But, get a book on how to install a mechanical pump. There is a lobe that is bolted to the camshaft that drives the pump. If that is not there, or damaged, it will not pump fuel, that may be why the electrical pump was installed.

Anyways, I did what you told me to do. And, the damn thing started to work. LoL, However, after driving my stang the electrical fuel pump died out again. Its no big deal. I am going to replace it. My only question is how do i take it off, If i have half a tank of gas left?

Just a thought, I know you will be replacing it anyway. But have you checked to make sure your ground for the pump is good. Sometimes they shake free with the older cars and then you have some problems. Which if that was the problem to begin with you will have it even after you replace the pump.

I tried checking if it had ground. And, what it looked me that it did. So, I went over to my local Kragen Auto shop and purchase a Holly Electric Fuel pump - Red version. After, many hours of labor. I finally finish. All I need to do now is go over to my local gas station and put some gas in my gas container. I tried the pump on and I can hear its engine running. So, I think its going to work.
