More head questions
I need to replace my stock 289 heads for my 641/2 stang problem is every "good deal" I run across wont fit with my headers and shock towers. I have the fordmotorsport long pipe headers. With my current heads I have approximately a 1/4" of clearence on my right shock tower so the heads I choose to replace these with can not be any wider at all!!!. Now the 351W I am told are not any wider (WRONG) 4 hours of waisted laber and a near panic attack later I had to remove the 351W heads because they are wider. Then I heard that the world heads would work just fine so instead of trying it out I called my local mustang shop who has been in business for 26 years and he said they would not fit either. So my question to you is will these heads fit directly on my car without any modification what so ever?

I'm not familiar with those headers, but 351W heads on my original 289 block fit fine in my '66 Coupe. I'm using Tri-Y headers though, and have about 1/2" clearance with the shock towers.

351W heads are wider then 289/302??? I don't think so. I have installed many, many. The block is wider because of the higher deck for the stroke.
Are you sure you didn't install 351C/M heads?? They will bolt on. But seeing is believing. |

Sunshine, the more I think about this the more I agree with Gearhead. 351W heads may have slightly different water jacket holes and do have an extra intake mounting hole, but the exhaust ports should be in the exact same place as the 289 port faces. Were these for sure 351W heads? Let us know what you find out on this.
