msd ignition
i was wondering if i could get a msd ignition box and the electronic ignition thing that sits in the stock distributor without haveing to get the msd distributor and coil ----if it would work like that

You didnt say if your starting with a points type distributor or something electronic already.
But if I wanted something other than points I would look into getting a pertronics electronic ignition module. It fits into your stock distributor replacing the points and give you a sustantial amount more performance. I think they are in the $80.00 range. Back when I could not afford anything a Ford duraspark distributor from a junker was always a winner. Always keep a spare box around, they like to get hot and quit. MSD makes a harness to plug into a Duraspark dist. hope this helps |

but will it help starting as when i drive my car for a while and it gets hot like 180degrees it sux at starting really sucks it takes me like 5 min to start it |
I do believe you can use a Petrtonix distributor module with a MSD box. Contact Petronix and/or MSD for details and to make sure you get the right box.

i have an msd 6a box with a stock distributor that used to have points. i got the pertronix and put it in.. car runs great. no problems at all. i also run a msd blaster 2 coil. hope this helps

It should fire rite up hot or cold. Lose the points, you will kick yourself for not doing it long time ago.

as far as the problem with starting while hot...check your starter connections. make sure your wires are all nice and tight and arent coroded at all.

Defenitly upgrade that ignition. I just put on an MSD 6al ignition box along with the blaster 2 coil which I got both and extra things for a bargain 30 bucks. I tried it out at first with my epoxy filled flame thrower coil and it worked fine. I did mount the oil filled blaster coil on the side of the shock tower to keep it away from harmful engine vibrations. Oh yeah and I also have the magnetic pick-up petronix inside the good old duraspark along with a modern wide cap. Really made a difference as far as performance. Haven't gotten the low down on gas milage yet but hopefully better. It revs much easier above 4500 rpm and moves the car side ways when it shifts and this is with a 3.00 open diferential which only did it when it on a slippery road. In the Fastback. Get it and don't look back. Or if you want a better system try a more expensive jacobs. Whatever road you choose upgrade the points.
