White Smoke is WATER.

Blown head gasket most likely.

Do a compression test.

Also what engine do you have? 5500/6000 on a 289 if it is not a K block is too much.

K block - solid lifters versus hydraulic. 4 bbl carb Your drivers side door should have a warranty plate. The second line of numbers something like 5F07A
5 is the year
F is the assembly plant
07 designates a coupe in this case
A is the engine code

Compression test requires a tester (any local parts store will have one.) Get the screw in kind. You remove the plugs and screw the tester in. Pull the coil wire first. Crank the engine about four turns. Get your reading. Repeat for all cylinders. The reading should be the same (give or take a few lbs) for all 8 cyls. If not then there are further tests that need to be done to determine where the leak is.
