Default New engine startup, need a bit of help

Hey, I just fired up my 302, it started, but is pretty fumbly. My problem is that when i dont work the throttle to get it going (takes probably about 30secs-1min to get it going) it makes a gurgeling noise, or an air bubble noise (Blurp, blurp) Then, it starts a fire in the exhaust manifold (new headers are on the way!) Its not an exhaust fire, justs a steady burn, plus the engine doesnt fire up. I havent been able to get the timing set exactly yet, so its pretty much just in the general area. Would it be too much fuel, or what?? thanks, I will run home asap after school (RRRrr) and hopefully get it running decent. Thanks.

Sounds to me like you have the initial timing way off. Did you put the distributor in? Are you sure it's not a tooth off? Also, be sure the plugs wires are right. It sounds simple, but you can get that if the wires are on the wrong plugs. Don't keep running it like this.

I'am sorry to here about your headers not fitting. Maybe you should give Stan at FPA a call, Like i said all he does is ford. You can look up his web site FPA .com His main thing is headers. Give him a call and talk to him, could be very helpful.
About your tire and wheels, didn't you email me and ask what my wheel offsets were on my car. the fastback on home page.

Regards Rich T

Oh, sorry about that Rich, i didnt see in that earlier post that you said he does headers! I thought that he was a knowledgable guy on fords, but didnt make headers, thats why i didnt bother him. I ordered another set of headers already though, from a local place, so hopefully they will fit. (third times a charm, right??) I also got my wheels figured out, i just went to the local tire place and ordered ones to match the front, (cheapo ones, but they look ok) Thanks for the info again, i will definately check out his webpage now, maybe something else will pop up that i will need his help/products. Thanks
