Default stock heads

If you look in the back of 5.0 mustangs and superfords or muscle mustangs and fast fords i believe there is a company that takes stock heads and does alot of nasty porting and polishing as well as adding oversized valves i think 1.94/1.60 . dont quote me on this but i believe they are 400 bucks. But working at autozone i tend to browse through the computer alot and i believe i have found gt 40p heads in the computer for 170 bucks a head. I dont have the casting numbers off of those heads but its worth checking into. I would appreciate anyone who knows the casting numbers because i would liek to buy a set of these heads. Just have someone look up heads for a 5.0 liter explorer from 1998.

I have everything possible done to my stock heads except for large valves.

My heads are.

Way ported and polished not just the exhaust side but the entire flow path from the intake all the way out the exhaust. The bowls have been blended and the combustion chambers have a mirror finish on them. The heads are milled 30 thousanths, I had a 3 angle valve job done to the valves and I had trick flow springs installed.

I havent got to run my 90'LX since I did the motor swap but it should go 12's.

Here is the down side I have a grip of cash wrapped up in my stock heads. I would say about 650-750 dollars.

www.powerheads.com sells cnc ported stock E7 heads with large valve and 550 lift springs for $650.00 with a core exchange.

This might help. My brother just got done doing a set for his "beater" stang. Mainly he just did the exhaust bumps and cleaned up in the intake area. On his car with these heads and a unported GT-40 intake with stock cam, 2.73 gear,TB, MAF, BBK shorties, off-road Hpipe and flowmasters. He went a 13.97 at 100.78MPH. Not ground breaking, but gives you an idea what you could do for yourself. And considering the stock parts that are still on it.

Cool

Stock Heads are great. I wish for a set of POWER HEADS. I have E7s on my car. The intakes where gasket matched, and blended about a 1/2 inch in. The exhast has only had the hump removed. No valve work, no shaving, no nothing. N.A. I run 12.40s @ 108. Power Heads are suppose to add about 40hp to a stock motor. If you have a few other things done it will be more. I have a set in the shed with big valves, ported, shaved, bowl hogged, polished, and CRACKED, Life Sucks sometimes.

DO NOT use Power Heads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought 2 sets of them and other than the CNC work they are JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Biggest peices of CRAP I have ever bought. Save your money and buy real heads. Or buy the Power heads with ONLY the CNC work done and have your local machine shop do the rest. The valves are cheap peices of crap, the valve springs you can compress fully between your hands, the intake valves were installed crooked, the heads had not been milled, No hardened exhaust seats, ect ect ect ect ect ect ect.......... Plus Power Heads does not stand behind the work at all. You are on your own once you have them. Do not expect them to rectify ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!! It was the worst experience of my life.

Mike Shultz (aka Thumper) does ported stock E7s with 5 angle valve work and I have read nothing but compliments about his work and the quality of the pieces. He is in ORange Park, FL. Flows are like 230/160 (check to be sure). He has an ad on Stangnet.com - do a search on "Thumper 460" and you'll find lots of recommendations. He charges $595 + refundable $85 core charge.

We need to get him to start visiting this site. He's active on the others.
