Odometer question

I had a guy tell me today that when the older mustangs (60's) roll the odometer over, the numbers don't line up correctly. If this is true then I am wondering if my 66 stang has only 70k original miles. Any input is very appreciated. thanks

That sounds reasonable but mine lines up perfectly and I have 138,000 on the car. Anybody else?

Yup, its true they do reline well . This sometimes causes new buyers to believe that the car is a great find do to it's lo milage.

Usually when the numbers don't line up it is because the speedo has been clocked. I have been told!!! That when you pull the pin that holds all the rows of numbers in place that it is very tricky to get them all lined up in the right orintation so when the pin is reinstalled they look original.

I have also been told!!! That to overcome this you take some tape [masking or black] and tape the rollers at the mileage so that they don't move, then reinsert the pin.

Hope this helps, That's all I know about the subject.
