Oil Leak??
I have 73 mustang with a 351 cleveland 4v heads my problem is the right side head( valve cover) is leaking oil threw all of the bottom valve cover nuts what is the cause of this? it is not much oil but it does leak very slowly on all bottom nuts??.
Also my right side breather cap is awful loose is that ok i mean it just turns easily and is not solid into the valve cover with the leak on the valve cover nuts and this i am seeing oil on my spark plug wires ect. do i need a new breather cap?. |
Re: Oil Leak??
Most valve cover breathers go into a rubber grommet, it may be old and need replaced. Do you know how old the valve cover gaskets are? Have you tried to tighten them up a little? May be time for new ones.

Re: Oil Leak??
It has been my experience that they tend to leak over time. Not a bad or expensive fix, so I would replace them.

Re: Oil Leak??
Had the same exact problem. I just replaced the gromet and valve and no more leaks for me... Good luck.

Re: Oil Leak??
I just bought the car a few weeks ago from a local car dealer he bought the car at a auction in Spokane Wa. and had no info except what you can see.
I have no clue what is inside the motor as far as pistons, cam ect. its very beefy and has the 4v heads, Edelbrock 351 torker intake, Holley 4779-6 (4150 750cfm DP i believe), MSD Blaster 2 Ignition, MSD Distributor, Headers that need replaced or recoated they are rusty, C4 Tranny, Rearend 9 inch, gears? unknown, traction bars. I just could not pass the car up they wanted $3500.00-$4000.00 for the car and i proposed a couple of deals and finally ended up paying $2900.00 for the car. It needs work the interior needs to be redone, the carb needs rebuilt or get a new one it bogs right from the start of hard stomps, rear shocks need replaced, as does the fronts i think, the hood also needs to be fixed corner of the fiberglass is broke. The last few days the frontend has been squeeking alot from turning, to backing out of the driveway. What could cause all this squeaking? is it the front shocks and springs?. If i push down on both front bumpers it squeaks bad  thanks Jim. Here are some pic's of the car- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-2-2813-22.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-3-1610-51.jpg |

Bend the tabs on the cap.

Re: Oil Leak??
A lot if times it depends on how long the car as sat. When I first repainted my car, I was too scared to drive the thing for fear of a chip. Then I started getting sqeaks from the car that had never been there before. Drive the car a while, if the sqeak persists....start greasing joints and the like and work your way from there. If it happens while pushing down on the bumper, might be a spring or shock, but driving my car for the first time after winter usually has a few noises for the first few miles.

Re: Oil Leak??
Congrats, you've got pretty much the original Eleanor (though I think that one was a 71-2). :) Good deal too.
Replace the cover gaskets, I wouldnt even screw around trying to get the ones on there to seal. As far as the squeaks, as noted above, I'd do all the lube points, and then see what's left. One of my first guesses would be the tie rods. Get the car up on a pair of stands, and try shaking the wheel l/r to see if theres any play. Just my .02 J |
Re: Oil Leak??
Thanks it was not easy but i stood tough in the heat of the battle and well i always wanted a stang :D. I went through all the lube points and on the drive home from brother in laws the squeaking was gone so far so good. It looked like it had not been greased for awhile.
If anyone would know is this a fastback, sportsroof? vin#3502H189544 |
