Default Oil Pan

I think that the oil pan on my '67 may be original and may be somewhat warped so I am getting some leakage around it. I ordered a Canton replacement oil pan and have a friend signed up to help me with the work. I thought it would just be a matter of removing the cross-member, starter and then replacing the pan but he says that it may be better to lift the engine. Seems like more work to do it that way. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. E.

Ok, I cant say for sure on the 67, but I can tell you on mine that all I have to do is remove my front crossmember. I cant imagine the 67 is much different.
Hope this helps a little.

On my 68 it was just remove the crossmember, starter and pull the steering out of the way. Then the pan was open to be removed.

One thing that I find a necessity when replacing the pan with the engine in the car is to use a one piece gasket. Put a little silicone sealant in the corners.

Good point Rev. The oil pan that I ordered comes with a gasket but from the photo it appears to be 4 sections. Will I be able to pick up a one piece gasket at the usual parts places - O'Reilly, Auto Zone, etc? I want to keep this as painless as possible. Thanks. E.

A question for Rev or anyone. My oil pan arrived today and yes, it came with a 4 piece Fel-Pro gasket set. As I mentioned, it is a Canton brand cadmium plated oil pan. An accompanying note states "We have found that one-piece gaskets do not seal as effectively as the four-piece style with our pans". What do you think? Should I go with the 4-piece set provided or try to get a one-piece gasket? Thanks again for your help. E.

As much as I like the one piece gaskets, I'd listen to the pan manufactore and use the 4 piece set.

Remember....why would they mention it, unless they have had a problem with the one piece. They, Canton, aren't in the gasket business.
