Default Performance question

iv ben having this problem for a while now.. now shure why but recently after checking everything and tuning up my car i gained a lot more power. iv ben adjusting the timing a little but im still not shure what to set it at. iv tried messing with it and finding different spots to try but still not shure where it runs best. anyway my problem is when i press the gas about 3\4 of the way down is pulls hard. but if i press it to the floor and go wot is boggs a little for a second then catches up but dosnt pull as hard at 3\4 pedal? what could be caused by this? timing or carb related. this is a problem iv always had but probably related to timing or carb. timing too high or too low? currently have it around 14 i think but not shure. what should i set the timing at 302 heads 289 block mostly stock bottom end. thanks.

Have you checked to see if your carb linkage is properly adjusted? It sounds like the butterfies are not opening all the way. It could also be the shooters are not big enough. It will bog a little if they are under size. Are you running jet extensions? The 302 seems to like about 32-33 degrees total.

sounds to me like you're losing it when the secondaries open ... maybe secondary metering is messed up or secondary squirters aren't working or float level is messed up ??

hey man!
it is carb related. mine does the same thing. you can buy a hipo carb, or take yours out and take it to a performance shop and have them work on it. i have mine set at 18 degreese over. keep in mind, once you go to far over you loose power. a good idea but dangerous. take of your hood, find a hill with a big incline, have some one sit ontop of the enging while another person drives up the hill, while driving up the hill, adjust the timing, and then have him nail it, and adjust it while he does that. that is the best way if you don't have a chasi dyno. but do hang on.

How big is the edelbrock carb you have? When you open the carb up completely you may not have enough engine vacuum to handle the loss of flow restriction when all the butterflys come fully open. Is the stumble related to rpm? Does the same thing happen off idle as if you punch it at 2000 and 3000 rpm's? What cam and heads do you have?

stock heads and cam and no its not rpm relatied. sometimes if im at 5000 and i want to hit it to 6 it will stumble so that rules out the vaccume loss problem.
