Pitman Arm instalation
 

I was getting ready to put a new pitman arm on my 65 mustang, and I was wondering if anyone has done it before, if you know a website that has some info, if it is really that hard to replace? thx for the help.

There are two things you need to do before removing an old arm. Make an index mark on the shaft and the arm and get a puller to get it off.
Besides needing a good size wrench or socket it is straight forward.

Pitman arms are easy to replace, just put it on the same way it came off. This would also be a good time to do any adjustments ot the steering box. If there is any slack in it, it can be adjusted out with the adjusting nut and screw on top of the box. Good luck and have fun!

Not to diagree, but I once tried to remove a pittman arm with a legit pittman arm remover and could not. Agreed, it was a borrowed one that I didn't want to break. Some have said it needs to be heated with a torch occasionally (under retractiuon preassure) to make it break loose). If I tried it again, I'd heat it during the retraction process. My $.02.

I was just wondering were you all get your mustang parts from.

I like Mustang Unlimited. They have always had what I needed at a good price and were easy to deal with.

Mustangs Unlimited is by far the best pick. They have the largest selection and the fastest shipping.

I wouldn't be heating it to remove it. There is a seal in the bottom of the steering box that you'll ruin heating it up and THEN YOU'LL HAVE ONE HECK OF A LEAK..

Get the right puller.
Mark arm and shaft before removing.
Soak with good penatrating oil, not WD-40 use PB Blaster.

Rap on end of puller if needed to help.

LOL,I wasn't suggesting cherry red here. Only enough to break it loose under tension.

I'll give you some advice right now...you can spray it, beat it, and swear at it forever, or you can get a pitman arm puller and have it off in 30 seconds. All you really have to do is remember which direction it's facing when you pull it, because it has 4 recessed splines that will only allow it to go back on a certain way.
