hi all. just wandering if anyone knows the correct points setting for 1965 inline six 200 c.i. engine. i used the ole matchbook cover method. it starts but im sure its not correct. i can find the number real easily somewhere else but right now this is the easiest. thanks

The gap is * 0.034 in (0.86mm) this is for the 260,289,289HP eng.

The point gap specs I have say to set it at .017-.021. I think induction was thinking about the spark plug gap it needs to be set at .034. .034 is way to big for the points I would be suprised if thr car would even run with the points that wide. Hope that cleared things up some.

1965 200ci IL6

Point Gap: .025"

Point Dwell: 37.5*

Ign. Timing: 12* BTDC

Spark Plug Gap: .034"

FWIW, all Ford IL6 engines built from 1949 through 1967 had a .025" point gap.

Take care,
-Chris

Hey, the "business card setting" worked for me for a a long time before I got "high tech" and bought a feeler guage. (historical data here).
