Question Power Steering or Wood Chiper?

I know this is the wrong forum but I browse here and there are alot og knowledgable<sp?> people here. My wifes 2000 mustang has a problem The power steering has a loud whine to it which I assume is to age (87,000). When te steering wheel it turned it makes a louder whine but it also can make a *chunk* noise which also affects the drag on the motor (rpms drop and raise a bit) almost the same affect of throwing branchs in a chipper... anyway I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow. I'm not sure how much can be done for it. Can it be drained flushed? and refilled easily?? Or is it similiar to brake lines in which I would have to bleed it? Any advice would be great.. I have a feeling we'll be getting a new pump but anything that you all know of that I can do before that would be great. Thanks
