Default Power Steering Hoses

Is there a reason for the P/S pressure hose being about a foot longer than it needs to be? My P/S is leaking yet again from where this hose connects to the P/S control valve. I was thinking of rerouting the hose from under the idler arm to a more direct shot to the pump. I'd like to make the line a lot shorter if it does not need the extra length for some reason.

Thanks for your help.

Unless the line moves, then shorten it. Lines are made to fit a varity of vehicles.

Go have a line made at a local hydraulic shop. They have better materials and usually cheaper. *Take your old one.
