Disk brakes....YES or NO?
 

Hey guys, I am currently in an internal struggle with myself to swap the
front drum brakes on my '67 Fastback for the Granada disk setup. This car
is pretty much an original car (color is not original...thats it), but not a
fully restored vehicle and will never be concours. Currently it's my daily
driver, but will soon be retired for weekend cruises....at least that's the
plan :) So, in being the super anal original type person, would I loose big
bucks on the value of this car or maybe increase it (as one person told me).
I will obviously keep the original hardware. I've concluded that adding a
booster is too much hell and will keep them manual. What do buyers of
classic mustangs like to see? Thanks for the help!

If originality is your concern, why not convert to a 67 style front disk system. It was an option so do it right and no one will be able to tell it wasn't original. As for the brakes, I would do a disk brake conversion if I was going to do much driving with the car. I know my 66 feels pretty weak with four wheel drums.

As far as function goes, it's night and day from drums to disks. I did the Granada conversion on my '66 with a kit from Jim's Mustang in El Cajon Ca. Total cost to my door was $650 including everything brand new except for rebuilt calipers and Granada spindles.

Only problem was the need for a rear stop for the brake pedal arm. Seems my '66 had a captured rod in the MC and the Granada didn't. Wouldn't be fun having the actuating rod come out from the MC. If you need details of how I fixed it, just e-mail me.

None of this is original of course, but then the original early Stang needs massive modification to be a decent driver.

I called a mustang guy today in the Riverside area, I believe it was Jim. He wants about $425 for a full non-power Granada disc brake setup minus the Maverick MC. Not bad, but I could do better on my own...I think....a quick call to the junkyards tomorrow will answer that question for me. Anyone have used Granada spindles and calipers for sale?
