timing advance adjust?

i bought a new timing advance canister that is vaccume controled. i was wondering if anyone knew how much advnce i need. the vacume advance is a general one that is adjustable with a allen wrench.. right now i have it turned 3 rotations and it runs good but i just want to make sure its right. if anyone has an adjustable one and knows how many rotations i need on the allen wrench that would greatly be appreciated... thanks.:)

Keep advanceing it until you get some off-idle or low throttle pinging. Then back it down a little and you're set!

It will also depend on the gas that you use as well as your static compression and your cam.

I agree with the empirical test as mentioned earlier. Don't let it "ping".
