diff install

if i were to buy just the ring and pinion for my mustang. would i need any other parts to install them or do i need to replace some barings or anything. i want to try and reuse the parts already in there because i think it was redont about a year ago but the previous owner didnt know his butt hole from a hole in the wall. also dont know what gears are in there but watned to put in 3.73's or so. ring and pinnion are about 150. just want to know how much i should save up to do this... also any special tools i need?

It would probably be best to replace anything that wasn't installed correctly and shows any wear. Check out the clutches if you have a posi. Setting up the ring and pinion can be done but is difficult without the proper tools, and setting up a clutch-pak is even harder unless you just reuse the shims that are already in there. Depending on your location there might be a local place to do the work but it usually isn't cheap but worth it when you think about it.

Unless you know how to set the ring and pinion up, I wouldn't attempt it. You can ruin the new gears and cause alot of headache.

You should also replace all the wear parts, bearings, seals, clutches [if a trac lok unit].

Having an professional do it will save you money in the long run.
