well i have told yall i am getting juice for my 289 and my dad said since i dont have posi i need to well how much is it? where can i get it ? are there different kinds??
and also can it install quick and easy on my rearend? thx alot |
are you dead set on a posi, or are you open to other differentials? there is a locker differential made by powertrax, its relatively cheap as far as diff's go and it can be installed in your garage in just a couple of hours with no special tools. here is the link:

I think you can install that Power-Trax carrier into your Ford 8" or 9" for around $500 or so doing the work yourself. Check with Summit for prices and tech advice.

An auburn limited slip is $300.00, a Detroit locker is about $400.00 or the cheapest of course is a spool $150.00, but that would make street driving almost impossible. If you do get "the juice" you should also make some very simple mods to the rear end housing to strenghten it, because damage will happen.

A spool ties the axles together so they turn at the same speed. An Auburn or Detroit Locker allow each wheel to turn at it's own speed when turning. With a spool it sorta drags the outside tire along when turning and you will wear the tires out real fast. Spools are really meant for drag racing applications.
You could run N2O with an open (non posi) rear end, but you will have absolutely zero traction. Ron |

When turning one tire rotates at one speed, the outside tire at another. With a spool they both turn at the same rate, so one or the other will drag. By the way, is this an 8 or 9 inch? Depending on which one, you might check E-Bay...I saw a bunch of 9 inch Ford Detriot lockers...some fairly reasonably

Don't the Detroit Lockers make that clicking or ratcheting sound when cornering? I've heard it can drive a person crazy on the street.

Since both tires rotate at the same rate with a spool (locked differential), and since each tire must roll over a differnt length of pavement, then some slippage of tire to pavement has to happen.
It might be dragging of the outside tire on the curve, or it could be spinning of the inside tire of the curve (more likely), but one or the other tire has to slip on the pavement if you go around a corner with a spool (locked rear axle). Hope this makes sense. Rev |

One more try....draw two curves on a piece of paper. One inside the other, like the tires on a car taking a right turn. The outside tire will have to rotate more often then the inside tire in order to keep up. If the axles are locked together, the one that has to rotate more often will drag along because it it rotating at the same speed as the inside tire. In a Detroit Locker or an Auburn there is a ratchet device that will keep that from happening.
