Speedo ? in a top loader 4 speed
 

Buddy got his 65 351 w/ Toploader 4 speed going but the speedo is going backwards. It sits on nothing while going forward but when you put it in reverse and drive the speedo works like usual. We were think that maybe the gear on the output shaft might be backwards but wouldnt that mean that the speedo gear wouldnt mesh the right way. It has already wrung the teeth off of one out put shaft gear.. Any ideas???

You're using the wrong speedo gear type. Toploader uses type 3A. Automatics like C4/C6 use type 3. The difference is the direction of the threads. Remove the speedo cable and replace with the correct 3A gear having the right number of teeth.
