16 excrutiating rusted bolts and alot of swear words, and ive got exhaust manifolds off my car. Beleive it or not the drivers side was actually easier to get than the passengers, easier to pull to losen the bolts.

I dropped my exhaust system to the floor first, and slid that out from under the car. Then i took my time removing all the exhaust manifold bolts and pulled those heavy suckers out. Now my cars just waiting for the headers to be put in (hooker comp.), which will be delayed untill sunday, because i have work the next 2 nights.

They seem like they will slip in quite nicely. Cant wait to fire it up . I think i will have sufficient clearance from the #5 pipe to the power steering pump hose, so i wont have to buy a 90 degree end for the hose. thats a plus lol. Well just thought id tell ya all what ive been up to. Next week i should be finding a time to take my car in and get the new exhaust system put in from reducers back. its gunna sounds nice . ill take pics too.

Hey congrats! And those exhaust bolts aren't too bad, you gotta get an impact gun!! But, now come to think of it i did have to cut one of mine out! rusted shut it was. lol

Well the passenger side went in with no problems, hardest part was threading the first 2 bolts, at each end and holdin the gasket in place, but after that all the other bolts went right on and easy, plenty of clearance , although its pretty close to the transmission pan. But the drivers side is another story... Only reason i cant get it is because i cant life the car off the ground high enough with jack stands, in my garage, to put the header completely virtical, and sliding it up into the engine compartment like that. Thats the only way to get it in, mainly because it has to clear the power steering box. So on monday im gunna have AAA tow it for me, down to the muffler shop and let them finish that header, and slap on the exhaust.

well, thats the plan, hope nothing gets in the way of it. If i had a 20 foot high garage and an auto lift id be all set. lol

dont tell me you forgot the power steering lowering bracket! lol You'll need one to run headers. they're cheap and available at most supply houses.

Never even heard of it. Nobody has ever mentioned one , but i still think the headers will fit , just gotta have the space to move around and work them in.

oops, my bad I keep forgetting you have a 73. You dont need the lowering bracket. I had to use one on my 70. Really tight fit to get those things in there. How are your shock towers? If they are sagging, a common problem with old stangs, it'll be tuff to get them in.

How do i know if my shock towers are sagging? If i didnt have those monster things, it would have taken me 30 minutes off the time of unbolting the old manifolds, and i would be able to drop the headers from the top lol.

Oh and is there an aftermarket peice i can buy, that is a pipe or tube, to replace the big flat peice of metal connecting the shock tower to the firewall?

that would help out for working in there alot. One guy on the user rides index has that, and it looks good too.

Those shock tower braces just bolt on. Two bolts on the firewall and 2 on the shock tower for each one. They're real easy to take off for working on stuff.

Thway I found out my towers were sagging was that I tried to install a monte carlo bar and it wouldn't fit! lolI dont know the exact distance between the towers but I'm sure some one here has the dimensions. Joinrdie, is right the export brace(tower to firewall) is a stock piece. The monte carlo bar (tower to tower) is an add on. If your looking for more modern supports. Ones that are not as wide and are adjustable. Check out Total Control Products. They make a kit that has both. They also make plenty of other handeling goodies! You'll get a better price if you buy from a distributer. Mustangs Unlimited, the Paddock, or one of those parts houses. Oh I think Globel West makes some kind of brace too, but I'm not sure.
