rim question

is it possible to fit a 17X11 in rim in the rear of a 68 with plenty of backspacing? or is 17X9 the largest without tubbing.

The rim should fit no problem the problem will be gettting a tire on that rim that won't rub :D Seriously though I know a 17x9 will fit but the offset has to be just right and the fender lip needs to be rolled. What size tire are you planning on running, because the 17x9 can hold any tire that will fit in the fenderwell without at least mini tubbing or fender extensions.

i was planning on either a 295-40 or a 315-40

i know they make specially make them for 94-98's but was thinkiong those would fit a 68 as well.

The 17x9 wil hold the 295 fine the 315 with bad sidwall roll but I have measuered my 67 because i plann on running the 17x9 cobra r's on it down the road and the late model offset is so far in that you need like a 5/8" spacer for them to line up right which I plan to do because the cobra r's look bad *** on the early models and the spacers i am going to get are billet and fit the hub like a rim and then have a hub ring for the rim to center on keeping it all strong. i had planned on a 295 rear and 275 front combo but it is all going to be real tight and the front by measurement should rub at lock steering. Also my rear supension doesn't compress much because of the way i have it set up if my rear suspensions had ful cycles then it would probaly rub in the back on BIG bumps. That is all from measureing on my car so none of it confirmed except i have seen 275's all the around on a 65 and it was on 17x9's he conformed the rubbing at lock but his rears are narrower then mine so although he said he wasn't having a problem with rub I still might.

PS he about $2 to 2500 billet rims on his car to get the right offset. I met him at a car show. Seemed to be a guy with more money then time type guy.

currently i have 15x8 torq thrust 2s in the front and 15x10 in the back. i wanted to get 17x11 torq thrust 2s in the back and 17x8 in the front and then lower it a couple inches.

also the widest youll be able to put on a 17x9 is a 275-40-17. i have 17x9 cobra rs on my 94 and the 275s are a tight fit, you wouldnt be able to put any bigger on. i would just like the look of 17x11s with a 315.
