timing chain.
sorry to keep bothering you guys with these litle questions. but I just can't seem to figure it out on my own.
I can't get the timing chain or the timing chain sprockets off. I have taken off the fuel pump eccentric. and every thing ellse I can see. and I know that I have to line up the timing marks but it still isn't comming off. acording to the chiltons book I have done everything there is to do except slide the sprockets off. thanks ford kid |
Heh, this time you should use the other type of puller; the type with two or three jaws and the middle screws in. Hook the jaws on the edges and the middle part will press on the end of the cam/crank and pull them right off.
|
thanks. I was thinking about using the regulare type of puller but didn't want to damage any thing. so now I will try that.
thanks ford kid |
New timing set
If you're doing a rebuild, get a new timig set for sure. Double roller type is better.

When pulling it off be sure to back and forth between the top sprocket and the bottom sprocket. If not it will tug hard on the top or bottom and can scrap and bend pieces.
|
yea I was planning on changing the timing set also.
I heard A double roller set was better but why. thanks ford kid |
Fordkid,
For your project it would help if you had a shop manual for your car/engine. Many of your questions would be answered. Jeff |
Jeff65- its funny you should say that cuz today I went looking at them. couldn't find one for A 260 out of A fairlane. but I have hit all the stores yet. tomorrow hopfully I will find one.
well I got the timing chain off. thanks ford kid |
The shop manual covers Falcon, Fairlane, Mustang, etc. The '68 manual is $38.50 sold at many Mustang parts vendors. The issue is L-26. You can also get it on CD for $49. NPD for one has it.

well this is engine came out of A 64. I saw the 68 maual.
thanks ford kid |
