oil pan differances?
I have a 74 302 in my car. The oil pan was on it when I got the car, and after my recent wreck, it is dented and going to be replaced. My local Body/mechanic shop is acting like the 74-78 oil pans are hard to find. I believe a 289-302 1965-1973 era oil pan should work just fine.
I think the block is out of a thunderbird maybe....but can think of no clearance issues with using the earlier era pans. Any effects on the oil pump area encountered? thanks, Ryan I think all of the mods that could effect it are in my signature.....if not, I do have long tube headers....but they should be no where near that area. |
Ok, I could be wrong, but the only two oil pans I can think of for Ford, other then after market 7 Qt and stuff, are the normal front sump oil pans, and the 80's to 90's Fox body rear sump double hump oil pans.
So any early type oil pan for a 302 should work just fine. Maybe he was thinking since parts for those cars are hard to find, that those would be too. |
Summit?
I think Summit carries either kind new for not too much $$. I'll bet local salvage yards have them cheap.

I thought I was right on this. I think they rely on what their "book" says...and nothing elses sometimes. I was going to put and aftermarket 7 qt pan on it, but got worried that the pan would be to low......the car sits really low now as it is.
thanks guys, ryan |
